Mailers Mind Their P’s For Security
Free Postal Seminar Aims to Protect Mail Center Operations
Postal employees are routinely taught to remember “Three P’s” — package, people, plan — in encountering suspicious mail and unknown powders or substances.
The catchy acronym reinforces a simple but effective course of action: Don”t handle the package. Clear the area of people. Follow your emergency action plan. On Wednesday, they will deliver “three P’s” to area postal customers as well.
The Fairfield County Postal Customer Council will host a free seminar on “Protecting Your Employee and Securing Your Mail Center” on Wednesday, Nov.14 at Sacred Heart University, 5151 Park Avenue, in Fairfield.
The workshop will feature Postal Inspectors Matthew Morrison, Tom Lambert, and Tom Ardito. Mark Penyak, the Postal Service’s Northeast Area Manager for National Preparedness will also speak.
The event is free and open to the public and area businesses. Registration begins at 8:30 am and the workshop is from 9 am till Noon.
Hosting the event will be the Fairfield County PCC co-chairs, Bridgeport Postmaster Mike Boccio and Art Gerckens of Sacred Heart University
For registration or information, please contact: Kathy Perez at (203) 332-5341.
The Postal Customer Council (PCC) program is intended to establish an effective dialogue and improve communications between the Postal Service and mailers. The Postal Customer Councils help keep customers apprised of changes in service, make suggestions or improvements to their local Postal carriers, and give customers a role in the Postal decision-making process. Councils also host educational seminars which impact postal customers in their daily operations.
Through its security and enforcement functions, the Postal Inspection Service provides assurance to American businesses for the safe exchange of funds and securities through the mail, to postal customers of the "sanctity of the seal" in transmitting correspondence and messages, and to postal employees of a safe work environment. They also provide training and support to local law enforcement and mailers on issues related to security of the mail.
