Only 888 Hours Left Until Christmas

Katona Corner Adds Hours To Local Postal Services

FAIRFIELD, CT – Just hours ahead of the busiest shipping days of the year, Fairfield mailers will find familiar faces in new spaces to help with this season’s shipping schedule.

The Katona Corner Contract Postal Unit, located at 1881 Black Rock Turnpike in Fairfield behind Billy’s Bakery, marks the latest expansion of contracted postal services provided inside local businesses in Connecticut.

In addition to providing convenient hours in locations where mailers conduct other errands, 29 contracted sites around Connecticut also expand access to postal products on weekends or holidays when regular post offices are closed.

A grand-opening at the Katona Corner contract unit is scheduled for Thursday, November 19 from 11:00 am to noon with local officials, including Fairfield’s postal officer in charge, Laura Ambrogio, scheduled to attend.

“Many Fairfield mailers will recognize our Katona Corner shipping partners in this new setting,” said Ms. Ambrogio. “This is an important expansion of our service and comes at just the right time for holiday mailings across Fairfield County. After all, there are only 888 hours left until Christmas and some recommended deadlines for mailing overseas are already upon us.”

According to Ms. Ambrogio, the Postal Service expects to process more than 30 million pounds of mail destined for overseas military installations during November and December, including war zones in Iraq and Afghanistan. As with other postal Contract Postal Units, Katona Corner will be able to assist mailers with domestic, international and military mailing services with trained staff on site.

“Katona Corner will provide a full line of postal products and including stamps, Express Mail service, Priority Mail service, special services and packaging products,” Ms. Ambrogio explained. To help the friends and families of service members, the Postal Service offers a Priority Mail military Large Flat Rate Box that provides a $2 postage discount for destinations with APO/FPO ZIP Code designations.

Postal services at Katona Corner will be available Mondays through Saturdays from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. The facility will also offer post office boxes for rent.

An independent federal agency, the U.S. Postal Service is the only delivery service that visits every address in the nation — 146 million homes and businesses. It has 37,000 retail locations and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to pay for operating expenses, not tax dollars. The Postal Service has annual revenues of $75 billion and delivers nearly half the world’s mail.
