Post Offices offering new Priority Mail Large Flat-Rate Box

Good for Shipping Anywhere in the U.S. for only $12.95

DENVER, CO —If it fits, you can save, and ship.

Starting March 3, Americans can now mail items in a new bigger Priority Mail Large Flat-Rate Box that is 50 percent larger in size than previous Priority Mail Flat Rate Boxes. They can mail items in it, regardless of weight, to any U.S. destination for only $12.95.

In addition, postal customers using the new Priority Mail Large Flat-Rate boxes can receive a $2 discount — a cost of $10.95 — if they ship to any overseas U.S. military location and to our U.S. troops stationed overseas. The military discount applies to shipping to an overseas Army/Air Force Post Office or Fleet Post Office (APO/FPO) address.

The new larger Priority Mail Flat Rate Boxes, 12" x 12" x 5½" in size and holding 800 cubic inches, will be available at Post Offices nationwide starting March 3. Customers can also order the boxes for no cost now by calling 800-610-8734, or by ordering them through usps.com. The flat rate price of $12.95 goes into effect March 3.

The Postal Service will continue to offer its original Priority Mail Flat-Rate Boxes, first introduced in 2004, in which customers can use them to ship anywhere in the U.S. and to overseas military APO/FPO addresses, regardless of weight, for $8.95. The two original Priority Mail Flat-Rate boxes are sized at 13.25" by 11.75" by 3.25" and the other 11" by 8.5" by 5.5."

Customers can choose to use Click-N-Ship at usps.com to print out their postage and for shipping packages by Priority and Express Mail to U.S. and international destinations. And where available, customers can request FREE carrier pickup of their Priority Mail and Express Mail packages after using usps.com to ship online.

The new Priority Mail Large Flat-Rate Box may be used for international shipments however the flat rate or shipping price is different for using it to mail to overseas countries. The cost is $29.95 to ship to Canada and Mexico and $49.95 to ship to other countries. Customers also receive a 5 percent discount when shipping Priority Mail packages online to international locations.

All Postal Service Priority and Express Mail packages and envelopes are environmentally friendly, exceeding the highest standards for recyclability.

In describing the new Priority Mail Large Flat-Rate Box, Postmaster General John E. Potter said, “We listened to our customers, and we’re giving them a new box that lets them ship larger items while still enjoying the benefits of a flat rate. Flat-rate boxes are very popular and the new, larger version provides even more value.”
