Colorado/Wyoming’s on-time First Class mail service sizzles with the summer temperatures – recent on-time score at 97 percent

DENVER, CO —Colorado and Wyoming’s hot temperatures are soaring with the summer heat and so are the Colorado/Wyoming Postal District’s on-time First Class Mail delivery scores.

The Colorado/Wyoming Postal District recently achieved a 97 percent on-time score for the delivery of local First Class Mail in the recent third quarter, covering April 1 to June 30, 2008. In the previous second quarter, Colorado/Wyoming Post Offices tied for highest on-time delivery score in the nation, out of 80 postal districts, with a scorching 98 percent.

Nationwide, IBM Global Business Services conducts the quarterly audits of First Class mail on-time delivery performance for the U.S. Postal Service. IBM has anonymous mailers who drop unidentifiable First-Class mail pieces of all sizes and shapes into the mail system daily.

IBM audits the delivery results of those mail pieces covering particular ZIP Codes within each of the 80 postal districts nationwide. The process measures First-Class Mail from the time it is deposited into a local collection box until it is delivered to its destination.

Nationally, local overnight First Class Mail scores averaged their highest ever in Quarter 3 at 97 percent. IBM reported that scores for two-day First Class Mail service throughout the U.S. averaged 95 percent on-time; while three-day First Class Mail service for all 50 states was 94 percent on-time.

The Colorado and Wyoming Postal District has 603 Post Offices and 14,000 postal employees. They process and deliver an average 13.4 million pieces of mail daily to nearly 2.8 million addresses in both states — a geographic area that includes over 201,000 square miles.

“We are committed to consistently providing our Colorado and Wyoming postal customers with the level of top mail service they have come to expect,” says District Manager Selwyn Epperson, who oversees postal operations in both states. “We greatly appreciate the tremendous support and business we receive from our many loyal Colorado and Wyoming postal customers.”

Added Colorado/Wyoming Sr. Manager of Mail Processing Roland Fuentes: “Our postal employees are dedicated to providing premiere service and to processing and delivering each and every piece of mail on time, every day.”

An independent federal agency, the U.S. Postal Service is the only delivery service that visits every address in the nation — 146 million homes and businesses. It has 37,000 retail locations and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to pay for operating expenses, not tax dollars. The Postal Service has annual revenues of $75 billion and delivers nearly half the world’s mail.
