Public invited to join officials & Post Office in unveiling new Colorado Flag Stamp June 14 at state capitol
DENVER, CO — Colorado will receive its own new U.S. postage stamp on June 14.
Colorado Lt. Gov. Barbara O’Brien and U.S. Rep. Diana DeGette will join the Denver Post Office in dedicating the new 42-cent Colorado Flags Of Our Nation Postage Stamp (pictured) at a state capitol ceremony on Flag Day, Saturday, June 14.
The June 14 Colorado State Flag Stamp ceremony will be held at 10:00 a.m., at the Denver State Capitol, 200 E. Colfax Ave. The public and press are invited. The stamp ceremony will be held on the west capitol steps. (If inclement weather, it will be moved inside the capitol rotunda.)
Denver Postmaster Alan Catlin will emcee the state flag stamp ceremony. Lt. Gov. O’Brien, Congresswoman Diana DeGette, and U.S. Postal Service Colorado/Wyoming District Manager Selwyn Epperson will unveil the stamps and deliver remarks. The Lowry Air Force Reserve Unit will present the flag colors with Denver School of the Arts student Katie Solko singing our national anthem.
The new Colorado Flag Stamp will be available at the capitol event and at Post Offices nationwide starting June 14. Also available to the public and to stamp collectors at the event will be a special Denver pictorial Flag Stamp postmark and souvenir Colorado cachet envelopes.
The Colorado Flag Stamp shows an image of the colorful state flag alongside snowy mountain peaks and evergreen trees. The stamp is included in the first set of 10 new Flags Of Our Nation Stamps to be issued on June 14, and designed by artist Tom Engeman of Bethany Beach, Delaware. Over the next three years, the Postal Service will issue 60 new flag stamps to represent the state flags of all 50 states, the District of Columbia, the U.S. territories and the U.S. Flag.
Including Colorado, these first 10 flag stamps available June 14 pay tribute to the flags of Alabama through Delaware (8 states), American Samoa and the Stars and Stripes. The flag stamps are being sold in a coil of 50 stamps only with each flag having five 42-cent stamps per coil, priced at $21.
“Our flag stamp reflects the spirit, independence and beauty of Colorado,” says Denver Postmaster Alan Catlin. “I think we have one of the most distinctive state flags of all our states.”
Denver will be one of several cities holding state flag stamp ceremonies at their state capitols on June 14. Others include Arkansas and California. Added Catlin: “The Post Office hopes to have a Colorado stamp(ede) come to our event. We think our flag stamp will be one of the most popular.”
