Jason Pluma to be Sworn in as Barstow Postmaster on Sept. 5

All in the Family — Pluma’s Father is Former Victorville Postmaster

SAN DIEGO — San Diego District Manager John E. Platt and Post Office Operations Manager Linda Crawford selected Jason Pluma as the new postmaster of Barstow. His installation ceremony will be held on Friday, September 5 at 10 a.m. at the Barstow Post Office, 425 S 2nd Street.

Pluma began working part-time for the Postal Service as a clerk in Hesperia in 1993. He became a full-time employee in 1996 and spent the next several years at Hesperia.

In 2005, he earned his first promotion to customer service supervisor and worked in that capacity until late 2006. He has been the customer service supervisor at Barstow since then.

He completed two officer-in-charge assignments at the Hesperia and Apple Valley Post Offices.

There has been some discussion that Jason was promoted to postmaster faster than his father, former Victorville postmaster Edd Pluma. Word has it that Jason made it at 32 years-old; Edd was 34.

Pluma earned eight special achievement awards during his career and has made notable contributions to improved customer service.

The Barstow Post Office has 23 carrier routes that make 16,307 deliveries. There are 3,307 P.O. Boxes. The office has a total of 45 employees. The Barstow Post Office provides service to Fort Irwin, which has two of the 23 carrier routes that make 2,381 deliveries. Fort Irwin offers retail service and has 1,056 P.O. Boxes.

It has 37,000 retail locations and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to pay for operating expenses, not tax dollars. The Postal Service has annual revenues of $75 billion and delivers nearly half the world’s mail.
