Background:
The Postal Service’s newest stamp commemorates the 100th Anniversary of “Take Me Out to the Ballgame,” one of the most popular baseball songs of all time. For decades, the song’s catchy chorus has been part of the musical tradition at ballparks around the country, especially during the seventh-inning stretch. The song was written by Jack Norworth in 1908. Albert Von Tilzer composed the music. Norworth and Von Tilzer were posthumously inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1970.
The Take Me Out to the Ballgame 42-cent First-Class postage stamp was issued at the White House on July 16, 2008, by President Bush and Postmaster General Jack Potter.
Pitch in For Baseball is a non-profit organization that helps kids all over the world by sharing the great game of baseball. “The communities Pitch In For Baseball serves often are struggling for basic needs,” said Pitch In For Baseball Executive Director David Rhode. “Pitch In For Baseball wants to make sure kids in those communities aren't overlooked. Baseball gives them the structure and freedom to be kids while making good decisions for their future. Kids not only have fun, but also learn important lessons for their future like teamwork, sportsmanship and dealing with adversity.” For more information, visit pitchinforbaseball.org.
