Riverside Post Office Schedules Another Popular Passport Day On Saturday, June 7

RIVERSIDE, CA — Back by popular demand, the U.S. Postal Service will hold a special Passport Day on Saturday, June 7 from 9 am to 2 pm at the Riverside Main Post Office, 4150 Chicago Ave.

This Passport Day event follows three very successful and well-attended passport days held in Riverside beginning in February 2008.

Saturday Passport Days are conducted for the convenience of Riverside residents, their children and others who may be traveling abroad soon and whose schedules make applying for a passport difficult during the week.

USPS passport acceptance agents will be on hand to process applications for Passport Books and take passport photos. Agents will also accept applications for the new Passport Cards that are used for land and sea travel between the United States and Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean and Bermuda.

Passport applicants are invited on a walk-in basis. No appointments are necessary. For additional information, call the Post Office at 951-788-4936 and ask for Eric Larson or Karen Stift.

To obtain a passport for the first time, applicants need proof of U.S. citizenship and a valid form of photo identification such as a driver’s license. A certified copy of a birth certificate (not a California abstract or photocopy) is the best proof of citizenship.

Applicants also need two passport photographs that can be taken at the Post Office. The fee for a Passport Book for first time adult applicants is $100 and $45 for a Passport Card. The fee for minors under the age of 16 is $60 for a Passport Book and $35 for a Passport Card. Extra fees apply for expedited processing and passport photos.

Visit the State Department’s consular website for passport information at http://travel.state.gov.

An independent federal agency, the U.S. Postal Service is the only delivery service that visits every address in the nation — 146 million homes and businesses. It has 37,000 retail locations and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to pay for operating expenses, not tax dollars. The Postal Service has annual revenues of $75 billion and delivers nearly half the world’s mail.
