Native Son to be Sworn in as Marina Postmaster

MARINA, CA — It’s not often that a person becomes the Postmaster of his hometown, but on Friday, May 16, Philip Tantillo II will officially do just that. Tantillo will be sworn in as the new Marina Postmaster at 11:00 a.m., at the Marina Post Office, 3100 Deforest Road.

Tantillo, 47, began his career in 1997 as a letter carrier in Monterey. In 2000, Tantillo was promoted to Supervisor, Customer Services in Marina.

“Serving as Marina postmaster is both poignant and special to me,” said Tantillo. “It is my hometown and my parent’s hometown. It is where my three children went to school and grew up.”

Tantillo and wife Laura, have two adult daughters, Carly, 21, and Jenna, 18, and one son, Adam, 16.  When not at work, Tantillo enjoys astronomy, marine fish and invertebrates, tennis, concerts, and live sporting events.

An active community member, Tantillo is a Board Member of the Marina Cultural Services & Special Events, and the Marina Earth Day Committee. He also volunteers with the Cypress Community Church Children’s Ministries, Junior High Sunday School Teacher, High School Youth Group Leader and the Sprit West Coast Assistant Director Veggie Land at Laguna Seca.

The Marina Post Office delivers an average daily mail volume of 33,000 pieces to 8,900 addresses and 1,600 P.O. Boxes. The 29 employees Tantillo manages serve a Marina population of 22,000.

Post Office Operations Manager Aron Jones will administer the oath of office.
