Postman Rings Twice For The Last Time
Fresno Letter Carrier Makes His Last Appointed Rounds After 50 Years Of Delivering The Mail

FRESNO, CA — After 50 years as a dedicated civil servant, ALL 50 with the United States Postal Service, Logan Howard is turning in his mailbag.
On Thursday, May 1, at 8:00 a.m., Howard will receive a presentation for his dedicated service from Sacramento District Manager Rosemarie Fernandez and Fresno Postmaster Ramona Frankfort at the Fresno Cardwell Post Office, 1606 E. Griffith Way.
Howard was hired as a career letter carrier on March 1, 1958. He first served a few weeks as temporary Christmas help in December 1957.
In the early years he had a bicycle route and later started driving a Jeep. When Long Life Vehicles (LLVs) became popular for mail delivery in the late 1980s, Jeeps were slowly phased out and Mr. Logan progressed with the times.
Several years ago, Mr. Logan was inducted into the Million-Mile Club for driving thirty years for the Postal Service without an accident.
Asked why he decided to work so many years for the Postal Service, he responded, "I love the job, I enjoy the customers, and I like everyone to see the Postal Service in a positive light."
What are his plans now? "I'm going to travel a little and spend quality time with my three grandkids. I have two grandsons and one granddaughter. Two live out of state, and I plan to see them more often."
