Nations Largest Single-Day Food Drive Celebrates 17 Years!
The National Association of Letter Carriers and the Food Bank Need Your Help to Stamp Out Hunger!
HAYWARD, CA — This year the Hayward Post Office, 24438 Santa Clara Street, and the local branch of the National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC) will be holding a Food Drive Kick Off in advance of the drive, Friday, May 2, at 8:30 a.m.
Hayward letter carriers will gather in front of the Post Office to make customers aware of the upcoming food drive. Hayward Mayor Michael Sweeney and representatives from the Salvation Army and the Faith Lutheran Church will also be on hand.
On Saturday, May 10, the NALC will pick up food for the needy from mailboxes nationwide in an effort to Stamp out Hunger!
An estimated 30 million people face hunger every day in America, including more than 12 million children. This food drive is one way to help those in Alameda County who live in households that struggle to buy needed food. Serious hunger affects many of our neighbors, but with food donations from our customers on May 10, and the help of the Food Banks for Alameda County, we can make a tangible difference in the fight against hunger in our community.
Letter carriers have established a tradition of community service over the years. They have always been involved when something needs to be done, whether watching over the elderly through the Carrier Alert program, delivering the mail and assisting the American Red Cross during times of disaster, rescuing victims of crime, fire and other catastrophes.
