Los Altos Post Office Letter Carrier Unit Moving

Move will have no Impact on Delivery Operations

LOS ALTOS Calif.—Change is coming to mail delivery operations in Los Altos, and the U.S. Postal Service would like to assure its customers that it will continue to deliver the mail with the same great service they have become accustomed to.

On Jan. 16, 2010, the letter carrier unit that is currently located in the Main Post Office at 100 1st Street will be moving from its current location to the Loyola Corners facility at 1525 Miramonte Ave. This means the carriers located in downtown will be domiciled in a different station in the City. “Although the carrier unit is moving, I would like to assure our customers that they will continue to receive their mail without interruption,” Los Altos Postmaster Makhan Mahal said.

However there is an important change that customers should be aware of. If a customer receives a notice from the Postal Service that they have a parcel to pick up, or mail that requires a signature, they will no longer do so at the 100 1st Street Post Office. “Beginning Jan. 19, 2010, if a customer receives a notice, they will pick up their package or sign for their mail at the Loyola Corners facility on Miramonte Avenue,” Mahal said. The Loyola Corners facility will also offer passport services.

In addition to the carrier unit move, retail services and P.O. Box delivery, currently located at the Main Post Office on 1st Street, will also be moving to a new location at 221 Main Street, but not until Feb. 1 2010. The Postal Service recently signed a long-term lease for the property at 221 Main St. in Downtown Los Altos, assuring residents and businesses continued convenient access to Postal products and services.

The Post Office at the new Main Street location will provide customers with the same full retail services now provided at the long-time 1st Street location. “We are very happy to be able to continue to serve the residents and businesses in downtown Los Altos,” Mahal said. “Merchants and Postal customers will now be better able to combine Post Office errands with other shopping needs, or pick up an extra book of stamps.”

Mahal said the Los Altos Post Office brings a valuable new strength and synergy to downtown. “It will be accessible to customers from both Main Street and the Parking Plazas, and blue mail collection boxes will be installed close by.” He added, “In addition to retail services, there will continue to be a P.O. Box Section in the downtown location.”
