Pescadero Post Office Celebrates 150 Years of Continuous Service
Public Invited to Join the Party
PESCADERO CA — On July 15, 1859, Henry Bidwell was sworn in as the first postmaster of Pescadero. For 150 years, the U.S. Postal Service has been serving the community of Pescadero, and to celebrate this milestone, the Postal Service will be offering a special postmark, on July 15 only, to customers who bring their stamped mail to the Pescadero Post Office, located at 2020 Pescadero Creek Road.
The celebration will continue on Saturday, July 18 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., when Postmaster Rita Adams will make a special presentation about the Pescadero Post Office. Refreshments will be served following the presentation.
“We have had the honor of serving the community of Pescadero for 150 years, so we thought that worthy of a celebration,” Adams said. “The location of the Post Office has moved around during that time, but we have had a continuous presence for 150 years.”
Postmaster Bidwell held the position from July 15, 1859 until Nov. 16, 1860, which was ten days after President Abraham Lincoln was elected. Bidwell was replaced by John Besse, who served until January, 1865. Pescadero has had 24 postmasters since 1859, with Adams being the most recent appointment. She has been postmaster since April 2, 2005.
