Release No. SF09-033

U.S. Postal Service Pacific Carrier Annex to Close

No Change in Service for Sunset and Richmond Postal Customers

SAN FRANCISCO — On July 3, 2009, the U.S. Postal Service will be closing the Pacific Carrier Annex, located at 1199 Ortega St. This means the letter carriers that serve the Sunset and Richmond Districts will be domiciled in a different carrier station in the City. The move should be transparent to Postal customers, who will continue to receive their mail without interruption.

Since the Pacific Carrier Annex is not a retail Post Office, customers should continue to visit their nearest local Post Office. To find the location of the nearest retail Post Office, customers should visit www.usps.com, or call 1-800-ask-usps (1-800-275-8777).

An independent federal agency, the U.S. Postal Service is the only delivery service that reaches every address in the nation, 149 million residences, businesses and Post Office Boxes, six days a week. It has 34,000 retail locations and relies on the sale of postage, products and services, not tax dollars, to pay for operating expenses. Named the Most Trusted Government Agency five consecutive years by the Ponemon Institute, the Postal Service has annual revenue of $75 billion and delivers nearly half the world’s mail.
