Scottsdale Postmaster to host Friday, Nov. 21, Grand Opening at new Main Post Office location

Scottsdale Postmaster Jeffrey Day invites the public to a Grand Opening celebration from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 21, in the main lobby of the city’s new Main Post Office at 1776 N. Scottsdale Rd.

A brief 10 a.m. ceremony will be followed by free refreshments and door prize drawings through 1 p.m.  Invited guests to the ceremony include Scottsdale city officials and representatives from the Scottsdale Chamber of Commerce.

The new Main Post Office location opened to the public on Monday, Sept. 27, 2008, after postal employees moved from the old location on Osborn Road during the weekend prior to that.

“We want to hold a special celebration just to thank our customers for their patience during this transition,” Day explained. “Our new facility really is fantastic, so for those who haven’t had the chance to visit us here yet, the Grand Opening will be a great time to come and experience it for themselves.”

The new Main Post Office facility’s customer-friendly features include 24-hour access to two Automated Postal Centers (APCs). The APCs are self-service kiosks where postal customers can purchase stamps and even weigh and mail a package using a credit or debit card.

An independent federal agency, the U.S. Postal Service is the only delivery service that visits every address in the nation — 146 million homes and businesses. It has 37,000 retail locations and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to pay for operating expenses, not tax dollars. The Postal Service has annual revenues of $75 billion and delivers nearly half the world’s mail.
