Phoenix Postmaster urges tax filers to mail early

PHOENIX, AZ – To assist last-minute tax filers, the Phoenix Post Office will offer a satellite drive-through drop off location from 6 p.m. until midnight on Wednesday, April 15, at the Phoenix Municipal Stadium parking lot.

Phoenix Postmaster Alvaro A. Alvarez urges customers to avoid the crowds and mail their tax returns early. But for those who decide to wait until the night of April 15, the satellite location – with drive-through access just south of E. Van Buren Street on 56th Street – will be the quickest and most convenient option.

Full retail services, including Certified and Registered Mail, will be available until midnight at the Phoenix Main Post Office, 4949 E. Van Buren St. However, because of road construction on Van Buren Street near the Post Office, customers wanting drive-through drop off convenience will be directed to the Phoenix Municipal Stadium location.

Drive-through customers should have correct postage affixed to their returns and Alvarez suggests customers buy their postage early. (First-Class postage is 42 cents for the first ounce and 17 cents for each additional ounce.)

Stamps are available at dozens of locations including supermarkets, drug stores, and contract postal units in the area. Locations of Post Offices in the Valley with self-service Automated Postal Centers or for alternate postage sales locations may be looked up online by clicking the “Post Office Locator” link at usps.com/tax.

Postal customers who mail early are encouraged to check the collection times posted on each blue collection box to ensure their return is picked up and postmarked on April 15.
