Keep the Approach to Your Mailbox Clear

Customers Can Help

CABOT, AR — The U.S. Postal Service delivers to more than 144 million homes, business and Post Office Boxes six days a week – from the Everglades to Anchorage and all points in between.  In doing so, letter carriers encounter every kind of situation from the bad weather Mother Nature can dream up to customers blocking their mailbox with cars and trash cans.

During this holiday season, USPS expects to deliver over 19 billion cards, letters and packages and needs customers’ help to get gifts to their destination swiftly and safely.

When the approach to the mailbox is blocked, the customer will not receive delivery.  To avoid this inconvenience, customers are responsible for keeping the approach to curbside mail receptacles clear of obstacles such as parked vehicles, trash cans, ice and snow.  Walkways and steps customarily used by letter carriers in delivering mail to wall mounted residential mail receptacles or business and residential door slots should also be clear of obstacles, ice and snow.

With customers’ help, the U.S. Postal Service can keep the mail moving for the local community and the nation.

An independent federal agency, the U.S. Postal Service is the only delivery service that visits every address in the nation — 146 million homes and businesses. It has 37,000 retail locations and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to pay for operating expenses, not tax dollars. The Postal Service has annual revenues of $75 billion and delivers nearly half the world’s mail.
