Searcy Post Office to begin remodeling project

SEARCY, AR — The Searcy Main Post Office at 600 West Academy Avenue will begin a remodeling project in mid to late November, according to Postmaster John Gentry. “We hope this won’t be too much of an inconvenience for our customers, but the end result should provide a better post office for the community,” he said.

During the five-month remodeling project, a temporary entrance will be available on the east side of the building for customer access to the retail counter and Post Office boxes. During the construction process, the P.O. boxes will be available only when the building is occupied, from about 7 a.m. - 6 p.m. Mon-Fri and 7 a.m. - 1 p.m. on Saturday. P.O. boxes will not be accessible on Sundays during the remodeling project.

Regular Post Office business hours for retail services will remain from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday to Friday, and 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday.

“Upon completion of the remodeling, customers should notice a much more appealing building with new tile, counter lines and more space,” said Gentry. “We are converting one of the counters and designating it as a passport only line. We hope that this will make our passport services more efficient and user friendly.”

Gentry said later in the year, the parking lot will be reconfigured and repaved. “We hope this will improve service for all customers, but in particular, our disabled customers,” Gentry said.

Vending machines will no longer available at the Post Office, but customers may purchase stamps online at usps.com, stamps by mail, stamps by fax at (501)368-0734, or at other alternate locations such as the East Moore Contract Postal Unit, Wal-Mart and Walgreens.
