Susan M. LaChance was named Vice President, Employee Development and Diversity in May 2005. Reporting to the Chief Human Resources Officer and Executive Vice President, she has responsibility for the corporate learning strategy, all employee and leadership development, succession planning, equal employment opportunity and diversity initiatives for the United States Postal Service.
Under LaChance’s leadership, Employee Development and Diversity’s, ED&D, focus is to develop and implement comprehensive plans that align the organization’s inclusiveness, learning and development strategies with our corporate vision of growing our business and sustaining a strong and viable Postal Service into the future. ED&D’s new learning strategy uses technology and employs a blended approach to deliver targeted and relevant training to improve job skills, support employee development and drive performance. She oversees the Learning Management System (LMS), one of the largest job-training systems in the country. She is responsible for establishing policies and practices that demonstrate the value the Postal Service places on diversity and inclusion in the workplace and the marketplace where our employees and customers feel valued and respected. She ensures that we have developmental programs designed to build a talent pipeline ready to assume leadership roles key to our future success.
Earlier, LaChance was the manager, selection, evaluation and recognition at Postal Service headquarters. She was responsible for national policy development and the related deployment of internal systems for employee recruitment, selection, internal placement and performance evaluation programs.
LaChance began her postal career as a part-time employee, while pursuing an undergraduate degree on a full time basis. For most of her career, she has engaged in specialized human resources services to include learning and performance management, labor relations, and employment and placement. She has held various managerial and operational positions with the Postal Service at both field and headquarters levels. She has been responsible for the national implementation of several key Human Resource programs, to include a Pay for Performance program and related online evaluation system, the national census survey of all employees, and the deployment of a continuum of learning for postal leadership
LaChance received the Postal Service's prestigious Postmaster General Award in 2004, as well as Vice President Awards in 2001, 2002, and 2004. She earned an undergraduate degree from Emmanuel College in Boston, Massachusetts and a Masters of Arts in organizational management at George Washington University.
LaChance holds the professional certification of Senior Professional in Human Resources and is a member of the Human Resource Planning Society and the American Society of Training and Development.
