Steven J. Forte was named Senior Vice President for Operations in June 2009 and reports to the Deputy Postmaster General and Chief Operating Officer. He is responsible for the Postal Service's engineering, facilities, network operations management, and delivery and post office operations.
Previously, Forte held the position of vice president, Area Operations, for the New York Metro Area. The area included the five boroughs of New York City, Long Island, Westchester and several other counties in the lower Hudson Valley, New York, most of New Jersey, as well as Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. In that position, he was responsible for all postal operations, including mail processing and distribution, logistics, sales and marketing, customer service and administrative support.
Forte was also manager of operations support for New York Metro. He has extensive experience in delivery, customer services and mail processing. He is a former manager of station and branch operations, manager of technical sales and service, and superintendent of branch operations. He has managed postal facilities in Queens and Westchester, as well as in-plant support for the area.
Forte began his postal career in 1977 in Hempstead, New York, where he was a mail handler, clerk and letter carrier. He is a graduate of Hofstra University, where he earned a Master of Business Administration degree and also has completed an executive program in leadership and strategic impact at Dartmouth College.
