Mitzi Betman was named acting vice president of Corporate Communications in April 2008. She reports to the senior vice president of Customer Relations.
Betman is responsible for all internal and external communications for the Postal Service, including public affairs, media relations, corporate messaging, design and brand equity, employee communication, video production and photography, speechwriting, crisis communications, community relations and a nationwide network of field communications professionals.
Previously Betman was director, Operations Planning and Strategies, reporting to the Deputy Postmaster General and Chief Operating Officer. She served as chief of staff and principal executive for implementation and coordination of national postal operations plans and strategies. She has managed cross-functional support activities, including corporate studies, projects and task force efforts as they relate to strategic business initiatives.
Betman also served as manager, Field Support and Integration, in the office of the Chief Operating Officer and Executive Vice President, where she was the principal liaison between Headquarters and field personnel.
Betman began her career with the Postal Service in 1981 as a distribution clerk in Riverdale, MD. She has previously held positions in Operations, Sales and Consumer Affairs. They include manager, Operations Planning and Support; manager, Sales Integration; officer-in-charge for the Laurel, MD, Post Office, and district manager, Alabama.
Betman holds a Bachelor of Science degree in business management from the University of Maryland University College and a Master of Public Administration degree from the American University, Washington, DC. A native of Laurel, MD, Betman and her husband have four daughters.
