Postal Service Rates First-Class Among Best Companies for Hispanics
USPS Only Federal Agency on Hispanic Business Magazine’s ‘Elite Diversity’ List
WASHINGTON—The U.S. Postal Service commitment to diversity received the stamp of approval for the third year in a row by Hispanic Business magazine, ranking 50th in the magazine’s annual Top 60 Diversity Companies list of best employers for Hispanics. The Postal Service is also the only federal agency included in the magazine’s 2009 list.
The rankings are determined by more than 30 variables that measure companies’ commitment to Hispanic hiring, promotion, marketing, philanthropy and supplier diversity. Hispanic Business magazine contacted the top Fortune 1000 companies, American subsidiaries of Global 500 companies and large U.S. public and private companies.
“Mercados multiculturales siguen representando oportunidades globales translates to multicultural markets continue to represent global opportunities,” said Susan LaChance, vice president, Employee Development and Diversity. “Because diversity affects our return on investment, it will continue to be valued and recognized as key to our business success in serving every community in America. Our continued focus on providing an inclusive marketplace and workplace is the necessary thing to do for business survival today and tomorrow.”
According to the U. S. Census Bureau, as of 2002, there are 1.6 million Hispanic-owned businesses, triple the rate of growth compared with the national average for all businesses, generating more than $222 billion in revenue.
Today, more than ever, the Postal Service serves the needs of a global and diverse marketplace. In the U.S., multicultural markets continue to represent sizable opportunities with Hispanics representing the fastest-growing segment of the population. By leveraging Postal Service global resources, mailing and shipping solutions can meet everyone’s business needs.
