Postal Service Provides Sneak Peek of Bob Hope Stamp

What:
Preview of the Bob Hope First-Class Commemorative stamp as part of ceremonies to rename the Ellis Island Research Library to the Bob Hope Memorial Library. The stamp will be issued next Spring.

Media need to call NO LATER THAN 9 a.m., Mon., Nov. 24, to reserve space on
the boat. Check-in is at 10 a.m. for the Mon., Nov 24, 2008 11 a.m. ceremony.

Ellis Island
Media need to check-in for ferry to Ellis Island at 10 a.m. at the U.S. Coast Guard station, just west of the Staten Island Ferry Terminal in Battery Park at State Street. Media may also enter Ellis Island via bridge from Liberty State Park in Jersey City. Media must contact Mindi Rambo of the National Park Service at 646-341-2825.

Background:
Bob Hope (1903-2003) enjoyed a lifetime of success on stage and in radio, television and film. He moved to America from England in 1908 and quickly exhibited a natural talent for making people laugh. Hope traveled around the globe performing for U.S. troops and hosted numerous highly rated TV specials. He died at his home in Toluca Lake, CA, on July 27, 2003, two months after his 100th birthday.
