Go for Extreme Performance
National Postal Forum Workshops Help Businesses Find Success In Mail
WASHINGTON, DC—The 2008 National Postal Forum is going to extremes to help businesses navigate the terrain of mail more smoothly. This year’s theme is “extreme performance” and workshops will offer attendees the opportunity to hear from industry experts on proven strategies for success.
“There’s something for everyone,” said Susan Plonkey, vice president, customer service. “From reducing costs for package shipping to greener direct marketing campaigns and on to gearing up for the Intelligent Mail Barcode, this year’s National Postal Forum pushes the envelope of success in mail.”
Four in-depth symposiums will be offered at the forum, May 18-21, at the Anaheim, CA, Convention Center.
The Package Symposium offers shippers the opportunity to learn how to cut shipping costs and how increased technology can provide a wealth of new information about packages. Recent changes in postal law offer the Postal Service unprecedented freedoms to develop new products and quickly bring them to market. Experts will host roundtable discussions on the latest case studies and market briefings.
Sustainability continues to take center stage. The Direct and Green Symposium shows marketers how to create successful direct marketing campaigns in a dynamic, resource-friendly way. Experts in the field offer tips on leveraging green-smart practices to improve consumer response.
Intelligent Mail barcodes will become a requirement for discount eligibility in 2009. Intelligent Mail can streamline addressing, preparation, acceptance, processing, transportation and delivery methods. At the Intelligent Mail Symposium, experts discuss how businesses can implement Intelligent Mail to achieve ultimate end-to-end visibility, improve address quality and turn data into information that can drive greater business results.
Change also is on the horizon for mail processing. The new Flats Sequencing System (FSS) technology that processes, distributes and delivers letters more efficiently will soon sort “flats” — large envelopes, magazines, catalogs and circulars. The FSS Symposium is a must-see for mailers of periodicals, catalogs and other flat mail. A series of education blocks and panel discussions deliver an in-depth understanding of the FSS technology and help mailers prepare for this dramatic transformation.
In addition to these symposiums, the Forum offers more than 140 educational workshops and special sessions, 13 professional certificate programs, and industry-leading exhibits. To register, visit www.npf.org.

An independent federal agency, the U.S. Postal Service is the only delivery service that visits every address in the nation—146 million homes and businesses. It has 37,000 retail locations and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to pay for operating expenses, not tax dollars. The Postal Service has annual revenues of $75 billion and delivers nearly half the world’s mail.
The National Postal Forum, a not-for-profit education corporation, was established in 1968 by a group of postal customers/mailers who were committed to an ongoing partnership with the U.S. Postal Service. The Forum’s goal, then and now, is to provide education to business mailers and communication/feedback between the Postal Service and its business customers for a more responsive and efficient mail communications system.
