Current Update:

New Jersey

On July 27, 2010, the New Jersey NDC reported a fire in its facility, located at 80 County Road, Jersey City, NJ, 07097. All mailers can continue using the NJ NDC as scheduled. USPS Network Operations is working closely with other processing facilities to maintain service until the NDC resumes normal operations which is expected to be July 29.

California

On Monday, Aug. 23, 2010, the Los Angeles NDC will be closed for one day only. The closure is due to work on the facility that includes shutting down electrical power.

  • Only a hand full of maintenance engineers will be on-site during that time.
  • Systems start-up will begin sequentially after 5 p.m. on Aug. 23 and will take a few hours to complete.
  • All mail processing types — parcels, bundles, trays, sacks and bedloads — are affected.
  • FAST appointment slots will be adjusted to avoid PVDS appointments Aug. 23. Options for drop-ship mail entry are:
    • Saturday, Aug. 21 — expanded appointment slots
    • Sunday, Aug. 22 — expanded appointment slots
    • Tuesday, Aug 24 — expanded appointment slots

DNDC mailings cannot be diverted to other Los Angeles processing centers. ZIP codes served by the Los Angeles NDC for destinating mail are: 889-891, 893, 900-908, 910-928 and 930-935.

USPS SUGGESTS MAILERS PLAN THEIR PRODUCTION AND LOGISTICS AT THE LA NDC ON AUG. 23 AS THOUGH THAT DAY WAS A USPS HOLIDAY.

Florida

On July 17, the Matlacha Community Post Office, 4547 Pine Island Road, Matlacha, FL, 33993-9767 was damaged by fire. Mail is currently being rerouted for distribution to the Mid Cape Carrier Annex, 79 Mid Cape Terrace, Cape Coral, FL, 33991 until evaluation of a temporary site near the fire-damaged facility is finished.

Street delivery in the area, provided by the Mid-Cape Post Office, has not been affected.

Iowa

The Dewar Post Office, 5916 1st Street, Dewar, IA, 50623 has been evacuated due to rising flood waters. Postal operations have moved to the Gilbertville Main Post Office, 1320 5th Street, Gilbertville, IA, 50634.

International Mail Service

Israel

Due to circumstances beyond the control of the Israel Post, forwarding of mail to the Gaza Strip has been suspended until further notice.

China (People’s Republic)

The China National Meteorological Centre announced on July 11, 2010 that heavy to torrential rains were expected for the provinces of Sichuan (61/62/63/64****), Chongqing (40****) and Guizhou (55/56****), and has forecast continued heavy rain until July 20, in some parts of the south.

This heavy rain may cause delays in the delivery of EMS items throughout the provinces and regions affected.

Great Britain (Royal Mail)

Royal Mail is pleased to report that the London Airport Mail Unit (LAMU) was able to resume operations at 18.00 GMT on Saturday, July 10, 2010 following the explosion that occurred at approximately 13.30 GMT on July 9, at the Servisair building.

Both export and import operations have returned to normal. As our airside yard extends up to the Servisair building, the fire brigade has closed one half of the yard, thereby limiting the area at LAMU available for delivering and dispatching mail.

Road traffic into LAMU is also restricted to one lane where the road passes the Servisair building, delaying landside vehicle access to the facility.

However, LAMU staff is working closely with all airlines and handlers to ensure that normal operations are maintained.

Continue to send mail as usual, and unless the current situation deteriorates, Royal Mail will not issue any further updates.

Mexico

On July 5, Hurricane Alex caused severe flooding in the north eastern Mexico, resulting in serious damage to the telecommunications infrastructure and creating communications and traffic problems throughout the country.

Due to these extensive network connection problems, the Office of Exchange has been unable to transmit or receive tracking data since July 2 or process EMS items received from that date.

These problems may cause delays in the delivery of EMS items, registered mail and parcels in the country.
