2006 Holiday Military Mailing Audio News Release

    INTRO:
    You probably haven't even thought about buying your Thanksgiving turkey yet, but the U.S. Postal Service says if you are planning to send holiday greetings to American service members in Iraq, Afghanistan and other overseas locations, now is the time to start planning your mailing. Pentagon spokesperson Major Stewart Upton says the first mailing deadline is fast approaching...

    MAJOR STEWART UPTON SOUNDBITE:
    Packages being sent to all Air - Army Post Office or Fleet Post Office ZIP codes using Parcel Post, the most economical service, should be mailed no later than Monday, November 13th. Letters and cards being sent by First-Class Mail to American troops in Iraq and Afghanistan should be mailed by December 4th in order to arrive in time for the holidays. Remember, all packages and mail must be addressed to individual service members.

    CLOSE:
    The Postal Service also offers Military Care Kits, Known as Mili Kits, to help military families and friends send care packages to their loved ones stationed overseas. The kits — available without charge — can be ordered by calling 1-800-610-8734.
