POSTAL SERVICE AWARDS CONTRACT FOR PURCHASE OF ELECTRICITY

Washington, D.C. - The U.S. Postal Service has awarded an aggregated contract to seven electric distribution companies in Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New York and Pennsylvania in the amount of $183,294,563 for the purchase of electricity generation.

Central Main Power and Bangor Hydro Electric; Potomac Electric Company; Baltimore Gas and Electric; National Grid and Western Massachusetts Electric Company; Con Edison; and Niagara Mohawk, New York State Gas and Electric and Central Hudson were awarded this fixed price indefinite delivery contract on July 1, 2005.

The successful candidates will provide electricity generation to multiple Postal Service facilities through these suppliers: Amerada Hess, Woodbridge, NJ; Constellation New Energy, 750, Baltimore, MD; Duquesne Light Energy, Pittsburgh, PA; Select Energy, Berlin, CT; and Suez Energy Resources, Boston, MA.
