FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contact: Burton St. John, 732-819-3662 or Diane Todd, 212-330-3167 October 15, 2003 www.usps.gov USPS SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETES TEST FUMIGATION AT TRENTON FACILITY HAMILTON TOWNSHIP, NJ - The October 11th test of the chlorine dioxide gas delivery systems that will be used to decontaminate the Trenton Processing and Distribution Center was a success, said Vito Cetta, the Postal Service's District Manager for Central New Jersey. "All components of the fumigation system were tested and chlorine dioxide was successfully distributed throughout the building," explained Cetta. During the test, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) used its sophisticated Trace Atmospheric Gas Analyzer bus to monitor conditions outside the building and reported no concerns. "This test should assure the community and employees that the fumigation process will be a success," said Cetta, "and we look forward to a full fumigation and recovery of the Hamilton Township facility." Preparations for the full building fumigation are continuing. In addition to the Postal Service and the EPA, test participants included the New Jersey State Police, the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection, the New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services, and Hamilton Township officials. A community town hall meeting to discuss the planned fumigation is being hosted by the Postal Service on October 20th at 7:00 p.m. at Reynolds Middle School in Hamilton. ###
