The Postal Service offers lower rates for mail that is transported by the mailer to certain kinds of postal facilities. Generally, the closer you take the mail to its final destination, the lower postage you pay. Why? Because the Postal Service doesn't have to transport the mail as far: you've already done some of the transportation work for us. That saves the Postal Service money—and the savings are passed on to you.
For presorted Standard Mail, lower postage rates are available for dropping your mail off at a bulk mail center (BMC) or sectional center facility (SCF). For Enhanced Carrier Route Standard Mail, there is also a lower rate available for dropping your flat- and parcel-size mail off at the destination delivery unit (DDU).
For Bound Printed Matter (Presorted and Carrier Route), lower postage rates are available for dropping your mail off a bulk mail center, sectional center facility, or destination delivery unit.
Some mailers who live near a large mail processing plant may be able to take advantage of these lower postage rates simply by driving a short distance to drop off their mail. Your local business mail entry staff can talk to you about your options.
