Size and Shape

The Postal Service separates all mail into one of four size categories:

cards[1]
letters[2]
large envelopes and "flats"[3]
parcels[4]

There are different rates and different standards for preparing your mail depending on the size of the mailpieces. If you have any questions about the size or shape of your mailpiece, contact your local mailpiece design analyst (MDA[5]) or business mail entry staff[6] for advice.
